Last night Seoul’s well known neighbourhood of Insadong caught fire and burned for several hours. The area is one of the most visited spots in the city, with traditional shops lining beautiful streets and alleyways.
At around 8:20 in the evening, the fire broke out in a restaurant, apparently causing several gas canisters to explode and spread the fire. To make matters worse, Insadong is an old neighborhood with narrow streets and alleys, and fire crews had a hard time getting in to fight the blaze.
The fire has destroyed 18 restaurants in eight different buildings, although no historic buildings were damaged.
