Traditionally, airport hotels are reserved for business travelers and those in transit, but a study from earlier this year reveals the airport hotel market has grown over the past couple of years, due to annual increases of downtown accommodation.
That, plus the time and cost of transportation into cities, is drawing more people away from centrally located hotels to ones that are just a stone’s throw away from aviation hubs.
Over in London, it can be a challenge to find a good quality hotel at Heathrow, though it’s pretty much the same case for other busy international airports around the world. But quality isn’t an issue for the hotels in and around Hong Kong International Airport, which are ideal for those in town for either a conference or holiday. Also, if you’re more outdoorsy and less of the bar hopping type, you’re probably better off staying away from the city center and finding a temporary home in one of these hotels.
Regal Airport Hotel
Regal Airport Hotel links to the passenger terminal by an enclosed, air-conditioned bridge and has more than a thousand rooms, so a room is always available even if you don’t book ahead of time. The interiors are formal and businesslike, but the other hotel facilities, like the pool and bars, allow you to play as hard as you work.
Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel
As the only 5-star accommodation on Lantau Island, Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel offers the most luxurious of amenities with unparalleled sea views (the airport views aren’t too shabby either). The hotel is packed with world class restaurants serving a variety of cuisines, and let’s not forget the amazing Quan Spa—unique to the Marriott brand—renowned for its tranquility zones that are perfect end to a stressful day of traveling.
Novotel CityGate Hong Kong
Shaped like a giant flat screen TV, Novotel CityGate is a good alternative to the standard chain experience. Budget travelers will be happy to know that Novotel CityGate has affordable rates and is connected to CityGate outlets where you can shop and ride the MTR subway, giving you easy access to Disneyland and other parts of Hong Kong.
